Course Content

Types of Variation
Variation can be classified into different types. First, we have continuous variation, where traits show a gradual range with many intermediate forms—for example, height and weight while discontinuous variation, where traits fall into distinct categories, such as blood group. We also classify variation into: Morphological variation, which involves physical appearance like size and color and Physiological variation, which involves functions such as blood group and behavior Understanding these types helps us study organisms more effectively.

Natural Selection and Adaptation
Natural selection, proposed by Charles Darwin, explains how organisms with favorable traits are more likely to survive and reproduce. Over time, these traits become more common in the population. Adaptation, on the other hand, is the process by which organisms adjust to their environment to enhance survival.

Evidence of Evolution
This slide highlights evidence such as fossils, comparative anatomy, embryology, and molecular biology that support the theory of evolution.

Speciation
Speciation refers to the formation of new species. This occurs when a population becomes separated, often due to geographical barriers like mountains or rivers. Over many generations, the separated groups experience different environmental conditions and develop distinct characteristics.
